Ok, so my brother Josh “Indi” Leidy just handed me a CD of songs about an hour ago. Some of the cuts on the CD were recorded last night at my man Kidko Vega’s studio for the first L.A.C.W. mixtape we’re trying to push out soon. I jumped to Track 10 of the CD was slapped in the face with a BRILLIANT jawn I’d never heard before, Kidko Vega feat. MOC V “Kik Azz”. I just got off the phone with Vega on some “Yoooo, what the fuck is this song and who is the first dude spitting? He’s ILL!” and Vega informs me that the first MC is his mans MOC V and directs me to this YouTube video. Epic shit all around. Enjoy.

Vote for my Remix of Robert Glasper's "Move Love" Dope, Soulful Hip Hop

This is my entry into the Robert Glasper “Move Love” Remix contest being held by www.indabamusic.com. Hearing the other DOPE remixes in the contest, I felt a challenge to come up with something unique that would stand out. Working with Abdulology & Jay Owens of Beat Council Music Group, we dove head first into the song, picked it apart and rearranged it as opposed to doing something simple like just adding new drums to the original. Initially Abdul sampled the finger snaps from the original and programmed them into the Akai MPC 2000XL to establish a pulse. Next, I chopped each of Robert’s electric piano chords into the Ensoniq ASR-10 and replayed each chord in a faster, more insistant progression to give the song some bounce and forward momentum. At this point the song sounds completely different and we’re feeling good. Enter multi-instrumentalist Jay Owens. Initially Jay played the Korg Triton & a Roland Fantom Module & added a spacey George Duke type synth track, strings and a bubbling Bassline ala’ 2000 era J Dilla. We knew we had something cool, so we ended the session and reconvened on Super Bowl Sunday to finish the song. Jay came with his Guitar and Effects pedal and I told him I wanted a guitar sound somewhere between Axis Bold As Love and a wash of Ambient sound. After a few takes, Jay got his ideas in order and layered some BEAUTIFUL guitar sounds that Abdul and I would later chop up and process in Pro Tools. Finally, I laid my verse down in a couple of takes. I wanted to play on the theme of “Move Love” and my verse is speaking to a lover in the midst of anger. Let’s move beyond this, we can forgive each other and move to a higher ground of security and intimacy. Yesterday Abdul and I finished the final mix, added the “Beat Council Baaaby” Tagline and here it is. I hope everyone hearing this will enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed creating it. Peace and Love :-)

n Wed. February 6th 2013, Liberation Art & Culture Works, Liberation Movie Night and Philadelphia Printworks invite you to Silk City Diner as we host DILLADELPHIA: A Celebration of the Life and Music of James “J DILLA” Yancey. Through his work with Slum Village, The Roots, Erykah Badu and countless others, J DILLA’s innovations have literally changed Hip Hop’s DNA creating new permutations that continue to grow nearly 6 years after his tragic death in 2006.

Dilla’s music is loved throughout the world and

Philadelphia has been no exception. J Dilla’s name has always rang bells here and his beats have banged in PLENTY of speakers throughout the #215. Inspired by these events, Liberation Art & Culture Works and it’s sponsors have devised this new Dilladelphia as part live showcase for local artists that are continuing and expanding on Dilla’s influence and musical legacy, part Dance Party in which Dilla lovers will pack the dance floor and get loose as DJ John Morrison spins selections from J Dilla’s DEEP catalogue ALL NIGHT!

The Evening will be punctuated with live performances from some of the city’s dopest artists, Hosted by Paul S. Frosty @SFrosty215 and including a performance from special guests Sela and more Special Guests to be announced!!! We will also be taking Donations for the J-Dilla Foundation, a charity established in honor of Dilla with the expressed goal of educating young musicians and keeping Dilla’s legacy alive.
